Pink Striped Hostess/Gardening Half Apron

This little cutie features deep pockets for all of your gardening tools.

This was one of those situations where I saw the fabric and then I saw the pattern and knew that they belonged together. I wasn't planning to make another apron, but I couldn't get either of them out of my head.

The apron is from our quickie pattern: 1950s Hostess Apron for Sewing and Gardening Around Waist - 2 Sewing patterns PDF 2492.

The apron also has a slight paper bag waistband (the waist stands a little about the waist ties) to keep your clothes clean; along with bias tape edgings. I have to say, the installation of the bias tape terrified me. I generally have problems working with bias tape. But going slow and using such a fun, bright color made this a non-terrifying, and totally uneventful sewing adventure. The pattern is simple, easy and fun, especially if you don't let the little things get in your head.

Finished lengths on this apron are:

• Width of apron skirt at the top:  15.625 inches
• Width at bottom of apron:  19.25 inches
• Side length:  22 inches
• Length from tie end to tie end: 65.5 inches

Another Apron Post - Jump on the Apron Band Wagon

We have another apron to show - the 1950's Sewing Apron, complete with a built-in pin cushion and scissor holder, and a large pocket to hold all of the tools needed to complete your sewing project. This is an easy project and pattern. It doesn't take a lot of fabric to make something cute.

Come on, jump on the apron bandwagon....

Alison found this cute cotton fabric. It's very similar to ticking with the different sized stripes. The fabric is tightly woven, making it great for the pin cushion and to ensure that sharp tools don't poke through the apron pocket.

This little guy took no time at all. In fact, it took longer to convince my son to take the pics than it took for me to make the apron. He decided to chop off my head in the picture and focus completely on the apron. I had to beg him to get one full-length picture of me. Unfortunately the only one that turned out was one that makes me look like I am in a police line-up. Fortunately, the apron is really cute.

Mitzi the Daschaund - Sew Cute

We have the cutest little sewing pattern.... Introducing Mitzi the Daschaund. She's a cute little thing designed to be made of felt.

For our project I made Mitzi out of muslin. We made her for my fourth-grader's teacher. She was retiring and I wanted to make her a cute little something that we could personalize from the class. We had the class sign the dog and gave Mitzi to her on the last day of school. I wish I had taken a picture of Mitzi full of names. She was so cute.

You might be wondering why Mitzi has big green button eyes. My little guy wanted Mitzi to be wearing sunglasses, so he found those fun buttons in my button stash and decided those were her glasses.

For her collar (which shows up a little bit in the pics on the left side of the collage) I used some double fold bias tape through which I hand sewed a decorative stitch with metallic silver thread. My little guy got his sunglasses, and I got my sparkle on Mitzi.

A Boat Load of Aprons

We have a bunch of aprons to show today....

All were made using guidelines and patterns from our 1940s Aprons and Bibs Sewing and Crochet Patterns & Ideas booklet. I decided to make the aprons that were calling to me....

The first apron is a cute little one to wear when serving cocktails at your next dinner party. You can look cute and stay drip-free in this apron. The ruffles make it fun and kicky! The front circle panel features a pocket.

The Heart Interest apron is a fun little hostess apron. I had this fabric in my stash, and I knew immediately that this goose print fabric was going to make up as the heart apron. Sometimes the fabric just talks to you.

Of course I had to make the Knitter's Delight! This is a neat apron. Alison has her hands in the top pocket, but if you look carefully below the triangle pocket you can see two buttons that show where the bottom pocket is located.

Free Monthly Pattern for November (hand sewing)

The flower "cascades" are made from stiff organdie and require some hand sewing, The chrysanthemums look pretty easy to make.
